Welcome to the National Academy of Arts,
Republic of Korea.

대한민국예술원 As one of the most authoritative organizations for Korean artists, the National Academy of Arts, Republic of Korea (NAA) was founded on July 17, 1954., in order to pass down the traditional sprit of learning and art to future generations. Its foundation was based on the Cultural Protection Act which was enacted and declared to improve scientists and artists’ status by guaranteeing academic and artistic freedom and promoting learning and art. At the time of the foundation, the NAA consisted of only 25 members. With the amendment of the National Academy Arts, Republic of Korea Act in 1996, the number of NAA members increased to 100.

Artists who have accomplished remarkable achievements in various artistic fields are serving as members of the NAA. They have been striving to contribute to the art world of Korea as well as to yield more results in their own fields. Their tremendous efforts are inspiration to many young artists and provide a solid foundation for the development of the art world of the country.

The National Academy of Arts, Republic of Korea has been making efforts and will continue to contribute to the development of arts by establishing the National Academy of Arts, Republic of Korea to treat favorably and support artists who have rendered meritorious services in artistic creation and to carry out projects assisting their artistic creative activities (Article 1 of the National Academy of Arts, Republic of Korea Act). The level of arts represents the level of a nation. The NAA will make its utmost effort to promote the Republic of Korea to become a nation with a high standard of art.
